After a depressing season last year, the varsity boys’ basketball team is now back on track. With only two returners, the head varsity coach, Coach Nichter, chose a brand new team that is filled with young and talented athletes.

As the winter season of 2016-2017 is coming close, the Quartz Hill basketball team is preparing for the season by entering a fall league, in which the boys’ varsity team will travel around and compete with other high school athletes. In order to prepare for both seasons, the head varsity and the junior varsity coach both choose notable athletes to come and practice before the season begins.

As a previous starter during his freshmen year, Zach Miller is taking lead on the varsity team as a co-captain. He stated, “I think we will do better than the team last year. Our team is very well rounded, and we have a lot of great young talents on our team.” Zach Miller has a goal to lead his team to winning Golden League this year. Being a young, talented sophomore, Zach Miller is a player to be watched on and off the courts.

As a current junior at Quartz Hill High School, Jalonnie Brooks is also the co-captain for the boys’ varsity team. He is one of the two varsity boys whom is returning from last year. Being one of the few sophomores on varsity last year, Jalonnie has experienced the intensity of playing at that level. He is a great leader and can really help teach and guide the younger members on the team. As a co-captain, he has set a goal to win Golden League this year and also make it to the playoffs.

All-in-all, the boys’ varsity basketball team this year is going to be filled with young and talented athletes. With the new uniforms that they will be receiving, they will not only play well, but they will also look good on the court. With the team’s chemistry and confidence, they are very capable of beating any obstacle against them. Zach Miller and Jalonnie Brooks will set a great example to their team members and provide the Rebels with an exciting upcoming season.
