With the boys’ basketball season coming to an end, the QHHS Rebels had a great victory over the Palmdale Falcons during Senior Night. Last year, the boys’ basketball team had over 10 seniors on the varsity level; however, there were only two seniors this year.

As the game began, Quartz Hill took the lead; however, Palmdale came back by the end of the first quarter by tying the game at 18-18. Sophomore point guard Julian Williams from the Palmdale Falcons caused a big problem for the Rebels. By scoring over 20 points, Julian and his three-pointers kept the Falcons in the game.

All was going well for the Falcons until our very own Peyton Whipple, senior guard for the Rebels, stepped up and began to take lead. By scoring around 29 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals, Peyton brought the momentum back to the Rebels and contributed to their victory. Our other senior, Dylan Ridenour, who is a transfer from Nevada, also put up points and led the team with 13 rebounds!

By the second half, the game was in the Rebels’ favor with a score of 50-34. Roman Pender, a 6’2” junior, led the team second in shooting, with approximately 24 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Giving up was never an option, and the QHHS Rebels pulled off an easy victory with the ending score of 87-57. Senior Night was a success and will only get better as the years go by. With many upcoming seniors for next year and the year after that, Quartz Hill High School basketball will slowly but surely improve to become the Number 1 team in Golden League.

As a recap of Senior Night, many people enjoyed watching QHHS take an easy win; however, some thought things could have gone better. One crowd member stated after the game, “It was a great way to spend my Friday night, but it was not what I expected. I did not realize we barely had any seniors.” The lack of seniors on Senior Night did seem very unusual, but that did not affect the way the team played. With all of their success, the boys’ basketball team will excel during the playoffs, just as they did during Senior Night.
