Super Bowl LIV was an exciting event, from the energetic halftime show to the spectacular plays made by both teams. Both the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs played spectacularly during the season. Compared to last year’s Super Bowl, this year was much more entertaining. Even the halftime show was a lot better than last year’s, which included Maroon 5 and Travis Scott.
The San Francisco 49ers seemed to have the upper hand during the Super Bowl with their superb defense. They have one of the best run defenses in the NFL with defensive rookie of the year, Nick Bosa. Nick Bosa, whose older brother Joey plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, has been an essential part of the 49ers and their season. Many people were expecting the 49ers to win because of their balanced team.
The 49ers had a solid offense and a solid defense, while the Chiefs had only an explosive offense that stood out. However, the Kansas City Chiefs have 2 of the fastest players in the NFL, which is what most likely led them to defeat the 49ers. One essential part the San Francisco 49ers were missing on their defense was speed. Although they have superb cornerbacks like Richard Sherman, Jaquiski Tartt, and Emmanuel Mosley, none of the cornerbacks have the speed that matches receivers such as Tyreek Hill and Mercole Hardman. Tyreek Hill and Mercole Hardman are arguably the fastest set of players in the NFL.
While these factors were an important part of the Chiefs’ victory, mistakes are likely what caused the 49ers to lose. Both Patrick Mahomes – the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs – and Jimmy Garoppolo – the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers – made mistakes that may have cost them the game. However, it seemed as though Mahomes made more mistakes than Garoppolo with 2 interceptions. Mahomes made up for these mistakes by coming up with clutch plays such as 40+ yard throws to receivers Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins. The Kansas City Chiefs are known for their clutch plays during the late game. To add a little sugar on top, the Chiefs ran for a touchdown in the final play and intercepted the last pass of the game.
In conclusion, Super Bowl LIV could have gone in a different direction. Big plays are ultimately what made the difference and shaped an exciting sporting event.
