On Friday, August 19, the QHHS JV football team had a scrimmage with the La Salle football team. It was a hot and humid afternoon with temperatures as high as 81 degrees which turned this scrimmage into a sweaty battle. The newly built Rebel team expected a hard-fought match against La Salle. Even though there was no score, our Rebels came into this scrimmage to make a statement and make Quartz Hill proud. This scrimmage was not like an ordinary game; for example, both La Salle and our Rebels would have two drives and each drive would consist of 10 plays.

The Rebels entered the game with confidence and determination.  They came out early with momentum to score in their first drive. Kiran Jain, number 18, was the only one to score in the scrimmage. He caught a 10 yard slant pass thrown by Jake Baczkowski and ran through the team to the end zone.

After the Rebels scored from a great play, it was La Salle’s turn to go on offense. They faced off against our tough Rebel defense that barely allowed any success for La Salle. With La Salle’s attempt at the end zone coming to an end because of our outstanding defense, it became our turn to score again.

The Rebel offense faced off once more against the La Salle defense for the last time. They fought hard and nearly stole another touchdown when they came close to the end zone, but there was an interception in our last play. By this time in the game, the weather had cooled down, which increased the speed of the game.

La Salle then put everything they had left against the Rebel defense. However, like all the other drives, the Rebels seemed to have all the momentum and control. La Salle came to about 20 yards from the end zone, but the Rebel defense was quick to respond to this by ending their run and ultimately entire the scrimmage.

In a interview after the game, Kiran Jain stated that “they couldn’t stop us” and that the Rebels “had the game under control”. Overall, the scrimmage was a success and a show of dominance by the Rebels. They came to the scrimmage with a goal in mind and removed any doubt or hate for the upcoming season.
