Bridgerton, a book series turned hit Netflix TV show, recently released the first part of Season Four on January 29th, with part two having followed suit on February 26th. This season focuses on the second Bridgerton brother, Benedict Bridgerton. As a long-time fan of the show, this is my honest review of the captivating cinderella story that was this season. If the title doesn’t already tell you, there will be spoilers for this season within this article.
The season began with a masquerade ball hosted by Violet Bridgerton, and my god it was gorgeous. The colors were beautiful and it added to the atmosphere of the show in its entirety. The Masquerade Ball being shades of deep blue was aesthetically pleasing, and it fit perfectly with the main event– The Lady in Silver. One of my favorite things in Bridgerton is how well the colors flow together and create a cozy, almost fantastical atmosphere.
I also very much enjoyed the insight into the lives of the servants as well, it was really nice seeing another side of the show since we usually only focus on the nobility. Sophie quickly became my favorite character, and seeing her as the lady in silver was amazing.
Jumping ahead, the second part of the season made me cry more than any other season. The struggle Benedict and Sophie went through trying to be together knowing that society would never let them was so sad to watch, but that wasn’t even the most depressing part. When John Sterling died, I cried for almost ten minutes. Seeing Francesca grieve and everyone else try to comfort her while she tried to push away her feelings felt far too real for my liking. Grief is a part of life that everyone goes through, and seeing it displayed in such a visceral way truly hit me close to home. Seeing Francesca try to stay strong was so well played, and relatable for not just myself, but many other people I’m sure. When she broke down in Violet’s arms, I will not deny the fact that I bawled for a solid ten minutes. The acting in this season was impeccable, it truly felt like they were feeling their characters feelings and not just acting them out from a script.
My absolute favorite scene from the entire season though, has to be the scenes from the court and at the queens ball where Violet and Benedict were fighting for Sophie’s freedom from Araminta. It was so sweet to see Benedict defend Sophie so passionately, and it was nice to see Violet acting so motherly towards Sophie, especially since Sophie never got to meet her own. Despite her attempts to make the viewers sympathize with her, I never once felt sorry for Araminta. It was amazing to see her be reduced to someone of less power and forced into going along with their plans in order to not get sent to prison. I will say, I would have much rather seen her arrested and given her karma for everything she pulled with Sophie.
Overall, this season has taken over as my favorite Bridgerton season. Everything about the season was beautiful and well played, it had the perfect mix of happiness and sadness, which created the perfect balance. The worst part of the season is that it’s over now. I’m very excited for the next season, but for now, I will be rewatching this season at least ten times, especially the part where they confronted Araminta and forced her to agree in front of the queen.
