Key Club is the oldest and one of the largest service programs for high school students. The club’s goal is to encourage leadership and to aid of others through service. Quartz Hill High School has been fortunate enough to maintain an active Key Club throughout its many years. For the 2016-2017 year, the officers are Hannah Ban, Elena Smaltino, Julia Ban, and Audrey Limb.

Hannah Ban, Key Club president, states, “Joining Key Club has changed my high school life in a positive way. I learned how to communicate with people, take leadership roles, and reach out to those who are in need. I chose to be an officer because my passion is to help others and to engage in leadership opportunities.” Being in this club has several benefits in helping a person grow and bringing out hidden qualities in one’s self.

Each year Key Club holds special events that are open to all members. They take pride in being an owl by showing their spirit at these events. At RTC (Regional Training Conference), members begin to learn what Key Club’s purpose is and how they can contribute to the club. Another major event for them is Fall Rally, which is held at Six Flags. The different clubs from around the California-Nevada-Hawaii District perform spirit battles. Also, the whole event is done with the purpose of raising funds and supporting the Pediatric Trauma Program. Lastly, in honor of finishing a year’s worth of service there is a district convention known as DCON.

Aleksandra Brajanovska, an active member, expresses, “Key Club has helped me to be more involved with not only school but also within the community. I have created great friendships that I’ll continue to cherish.”

Key Club gives numerous opportunities for people to grasp leadership roles and to become more active within the community through volunteering. This allows one to create new friendships with different people in the area.

All members of Key Club are given the chance to better the community by actively participating in service projects. Officers have been working hard throughout the year to coordinate fundraisers and events for members to seize leadership roles, to help those in need, and to have an enjoyable experience being in the club and more involved in school.
