The Result of Homecoming Assembly

Last Friday, all students at Quartz Hill, attended or participated in the Homecoming Assembly, a school-wide event that requires much preparation by ASB. This year, the theme was “Road to Rio,” an Olympic motif that was brainstormed by ASB.

The planning for this assembly and the other events associated with Homecoming make that particular week very stressful for ASB. Some of the preparation for the assembly included making numerous posters, creating balloon decorations, and organizing the line-up for the dance teams. ASB also took time to paint the field not only for the assembly, but also for the football game later that night.

Triveni Patel, a member of ASB, stated, “As ASB, we had to a lot of work this week trying to get ready for the dance. Every person had to put in a certain number of work hours, and we even had work days since the beginning of the year to brainstorm for Homecoming.”

Every year during this event, the different dance teams at our school put together a routine to display in the assembly. This year Spanish Club, Hip-Hop, and the Dance Team were among those who performed. One of the most spectacular productions was the Dance Team’s Olympic-themed performance that fit perfectly with the Homecoming theme of “Road to Rio.” The dance featured several different sports and was assuredly a crowd favorite.

As for sports, cheer was the only one to perform a routine. Football also did a similar stunt as the cheerleaders by launching one guy into the air. But ASB president Serena Allen said, “Maybe football should leave their stunts for cheer next time.”

The other sports including Girl’s Golf, Girl’s Tennis, Girl’s Volleyball, and Cross Country also participated in the assembly by having a relay race against the classes. The game incorporated bits of all sports and even required help from the audience to pop balloons for their respective classes to start the game.

One sophomore, Julia Ban stated, “I thought the relay race was one of the most exciting parts of the assembly because I am part of Girl’s Golf. It was fun to cheer on my class, and I like how unique the game is because it had all the sports involved.”

During the assembly, all the seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen lined the stands of our football stadium. As our emcees Serena Allen and Daniel Morin led the class chants, the riotous walls of people showed their Rebel pride and love for our school. The audience also cheered for in recognition of Alexis Romero, a spirited Rebel whom we lost this summer. It was truly amazing for our Rebels to be united, especially for a student we have lost.

Overall, this year’s Homecoming Assembly was a great success, and this is one for the books. The hard work from ASB, the preparations by the dance teams, and even the participation of the audience led our “Road to Rio” to achieve the gold.
