The Purge Haunted House
As always, ASB is going all out for Halloween. So, I decided to try the annual haunted house that they set up every year. I am not normally the jumpy type, but this year’s theme was the Purge, which gave me high expectations.
When first entering the haunted house I was confronted with a very serious Daniel Joseph who laid out all of the rules and regulations. He pulled back the curtain behind him and I entered the gym.
The first thing I noticed was the flashing lights that made me wonder if I had somehow entered into a rave instead of the haunted house. The first couple of rooms I walked through were a blur since I was too busy trying to adjust to the lights without throwing up. I do recall a lot of cries for help in all directions as I dizzily walked along the maze setup.
Once I adjusted to the lighting, I was able to see people covered in blood on the floor and others in masks with baseball bats. It was still difficult to see, so I paid extra attention to the floor to prevent myself from tripping over someone or something.
One of the rooms had the words “chop shop” painted on the wall, which made me think it had something to do with sushi (probably because I was hungry), but in reality it was a person getting butchered to death. At this point I was focusing on so many things, such as where I was walking, the people around me, and passing out.
That is when I reached the end of the haunted house. It was a long stretch of space filled with more masked fellows. The last pair of people stood together as I walked towards the exit and squished me between them. As some people may know, I do not particularly like being touched out of the blue, and being pinned in this kind of sweaty sandwich annoyed me rather than scared me. I did not realize how much I enjoyed being able to see clearly until I left the gym.
Overall, I highly enjoyed it. I could tell that there was a lot of effort put into the haunted house, and I genuinely felt creeped out. It made me regret not going to the previous ones, as I am sure they were just as good.
