ASB Behind the Scenes

From school dances to rallies and spirit weeks to assemblies, our incredible ASB at Quartz Hill does it all. ASB, or Associated Student Body, is one of the most active organizations at school and plans many of the events that students attend throughout the year. They plan certain events like Homecoming and the upcoming talent show, and they also work many hours at the snack bar and football games. Additionally, they meticulously create posters and decorations for assemblies and dances during class and even after school on “work days.”

One of the biggest things they stress is leadership, and they often have class discussions on the topic. Every Monday, the class receives a mini lesson from fellow students about topics ranging from leadership to publicity. The organization provides many opportunities to be an officer, with the standard positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) for each class, as well as several committee positions. Currently, the president of the student body is Serena Allen, who has been doing an incredible job in preparing for all the events that we already have had this year.

Due to the multitude of events that ASB has to plan for, the students stick to a strict schedule and divide up the work between “pods.” Certain events also get divided up by the different classes. Sophomore class President Kevin Flores stated, “My class and I are responsible for preparing Winter Ball for students.” Although the work is divided, all ASB representatives have a common goal. Flores stated, “We all work together to come up with ways to get our students excited and involved in our football games, spirit days, etc.”

Many ASB representatives feel that the organization is one big family, and they spend a lot of time with each other. In fact, the different classes usually have bonding sessions where they can get comfortable with one another, which is very important because they all have to work together as a team for the many projects they take on. They also have training camps like CADA, in which they participate in team-building exercises and learn more about associated student body.

For many representatives, ASB is a way to learn new skills like public speaking and to experience a vision come to life. Eileen Mcgregor, a new representative of ASB, stated, “My favorite thing about being a part of ASB is feeling like I am giving back to the school and uplifting the student body.” To be a part of this remarkable and hardworking group of people, join Quartz Hill’s amazing associated student body!
