By this time, most of our winter sports teams have ended their seasons and have reached the playoffs. One of these teams, the Quartz Hill Boy’s Soccer Team, sadly missed their shot in the playoffs due to disqualification. Coached by Robert Gonzalez. the boy’s soccer team had an incredible season with each individual player working their tails offs in hopes of a playoff debut.

The boy’s soccer team had a rough start to the season, winning only two of their first seven games; however, after the team went deeper into the season the Rebels began to pick up the pace, winning more games and scoring more goals.

Around the midpoint of the season, the boy’s soccer team matched up with our rivals, the Highland Bulldogs. Remarkably, both teams came into the game playing excellent defense, which kept the box score empty as the game ended as a tie, 0-0.

After the rival game against Highland, the season began to run smoothly for boy’s soccer, as they consistently won almost all their games. Near the end of the season, the power rankings placed Quartz Hill in 2nd place and in a clear path to the playoffs. However, in their last game, our boy’s soccer team got into a physical altercation with the players from Knight, disqualifying both teams from entering the playoffs.

Daniel Hernandez, a player from the team, expressed his disappointment with this season: “This year was very tough. We were very hardworking on and off the field training to become Golden League Champions.”

When asked about missing the playoffs, Daniel Hernandez stated, “It was heartbreaking hearing the news that we have been disqualified from the CIF Playoffs especially when we have been working so hard to win every game in order to fulfill our vision on winning CIF.” Hernandez said that, although the season ended, he is going to continue to train with his teammates and prepare for next season.

Although the boy’s soccer team missed on entering in the playoffs, they still had an outstanding year with spectacular athletes such as Daniel Hernandez and Joshua Mendez. These students will continue to work on their game until it is perfected and ready to go for the next season.
