Student Profile: Dalila Solis
Dalila Eileen Solis is a star in the shadows. She’s shining, but because she is so humble, she is choosing to keep it under wraps. Dalila is a 15-year-old freshman here at Quartz Hill High School. Although the students may not notice, Dalila’s secret talents are on display in various locations throughout our school. Her talent? Drawing.
Solis said, “Since the day I could hold a utensil, I just drew and drew.” She aspires to be an animator, preferably for Disney. She says that art has always been a major part of her life, influencing her school choices.
Solis is in Algebra 2/Trigonometry and has a complete set of honors classes, which shows that she is a hardworking student. Aside from being an overachiever, she enjoys staying up late, being on the internet, and doing other activities like any other “average teenager.” She has one younger sister and two dogs that she adores. Aside from art, she likes to play the piano, swim, and take photos of different landscapes and cityscapes.
She describes herself as an introverted person and says that she has been called “socially awkward,” but cherishes that part of her. But, under all of that shyness, she strives to maintain her honor student status, and says that “failing is not an option.” She is a well-rounded student today, getting involved in various clubs around campus.
Solis’s drawings are exceptional. She covers all of her bases, dabbling in digital as well as traditional drawings. She doesn’t have a preference of what to draw, but she prefers to draw animals as well as humans. Her favorite drawing utensils are her professional sketching pencils. When asked about her connection to her artwork, Solis explained, “Art has always been a part of my own little world as a child, and it’s what kept me going throughout all these rough years.”
Dalila’s drawings have gained popularity with the freshmen, especially in classes where she has to draw, and her visual representations have received nothing but praise. To this day, Dalila’s painting of a cell sits proudly in Mrs.Penn’s Biology class, right in the front where everyone can see it. Dalila’s drawing of a house still remains stapled to the wall in Señora Reyes’s class. This extraordinary artist’s pieces can be found in many classrooms today.
Dalila is just one of the few examples of exemplary students hidden among us. She sets a great example for us to follow, and she maintains her passion all the while maintaining her grades.
