Boys Volleyball Defeats Highland
It is currently the boys’ volleyball season. The boys have done very well in their matches and are well on their way to CIF. They recently played a game against Highland, their main rival, on Friday, April 28th.
Kevin Stephenson, an avid volleyball player on the Quartz Hill team, stated, “The game went well. Junior varsity won in two of their sets and varsity won in three of theirs. We won pretty easily. We got most of our points with an easy bump, set, and spike. Highland was an easy opponent.”
Stephenson, who always pushes himself, added, “I felt like the game went well, but we could have done better because we can always do better no matter what.”
Whenever Quartz Hill goes against Highland for any event, there is always a big hype among the students. Stephenson said that the bleachers were full, and the gym was very loud. He stated, “Playing against any other team is always fun, especially when you know a few players on the other team, like Highland.”
The boys’ volleyball team has had many successes this season. Stephenson said, “We are extremely close to CIF. Our last game is on Tuesday, the 2nd of May. The season is coming to an end pretty soon and it makes me sad.”
Stephenson stated about their win against Highland: “I feel like I did a good job contributing to the win. I kept my serves in and got some good kills throughout the game.”
The Highland game with JV had many on edge. Stephenson recalls the winning point of the junior varsity game: “Although Highland was down fifteen points in the second set, we still wanted to finish strong. They served a fast serve to our liberó, but he quickly got to it in time. Then, our setter got into position and set the ball. I ran up to it and spiked it as hard as I could. Highland didn’t see it coming.”
Quartz Hill definitely showed Highland that our Rebels were the dominant players in the valley.
