Winter Ball in preview
January 19, 2018
On January 19th, Quartz Hill High School will be hosting its annual Winter Ball at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History, or the MOAH, located on Lancaster Boulevard. The theme is “Winter in New York” and this event will take place from 7-10 pm. Tickets are on sale for $35 with an ASB card, $40 without an ASB card, and $45 for guest passes and at the door. Ticket price includes water, a candy bar, and dinner.
In order to bring a guest, all that was required of the guest was to visit qhhs.org, fill out the “Off Campus Guest Pass,” and turn it into QHHS by January 18th.
Being a sophomore event, Winter Ball is planned and run by the sophomore class and the ASB committee. On this second quarter short term committee, Malena Ronga is the committee chair and the members include Jacqueline Shaver, Imani Speed, Thomas Douglas, Brenna Manthey, Alexis Jensen, Ivaane Odoi, Mandy Roberts, and Hannah Flores. This committee began to prepare for Winter Ball at the beginning of the school year and conducted a poll during last semester’s Club Rush regarding the theme.
Malena Ronga, who is in charge of managing and planning the Winter Ball, explained how the MOAH was picked to be the venue: “We chose the MOAH because of last year’s popularity. Everyone really enjoyed it. Originally, we were in between the Fairgrounds and the PEC; but ultimately, we thought it would be best to choose the MOAH.”
As for the decorations, ASB took advantage of the MOAH’s three-level structure. The first floor will contain a few pieces of art; however, it will primarily be the dancing area. Further, ASB will set up projectors that match the theme and the DJ will provide lights. On the second floor, there will be not only a polaroid camera photo booth, but also an actual photo booth with photo strips free of charge.
Daniel Cho, a junior who is planning to attend Winter Ball, expresses his excitement: “I am super stoked to take pictures with my girlfriend at the photobooth! This will be a great memory for the both of us.”
Lastly, on the third floor, there will be pasta, salad, and bread catered by The Lemon Leaf Cafe. Additionally, outside of the eating area, there will be a small game station including card games, board games, and Jenga.
Committee Chair Malena Ronga shared her aspirations for Winter Ball: “Honestly, I just want to get lots of students involved and for them to have a good time. We put a lot of hard work into this and we really want everyone to enjoy it. Also, it would be cool to make Winter Ball a high-end event that more students attend because it is going to be lots of fun.”
Winter Ball will be an opportunity for all students to enjoy the night away from school and transport to New York for a night well-spent.
