The End of Soccer Season

By Nilesh Kumar, Staff Writer

The final two season games for the JV and Varsity (boys and girls) soccer teams recently took place on February 4th and February 6th. Both the boys and girls had successful seasons, despite there being a few slips along the way.

For the boys JV soccer team, there were high hopes of finishing first in the Golden League. The team was looking promising for most of the season, given that they beat Pete Knight the second time they played them after initially tying the first game. Unfortunately, on Friday the 31st of January, the JV soccer team suffered a 0-1 defeat against Pete Knight due to a counterattack in the last 15 minutes of the game.

However, if Pete Knight either ties both of their upcoming games (against Highland and Eastside) or loses one, our boys have a good chance of winning or tying for first this year. Quartz Hill won both of their games this week (against Littlerock and Palmdale), and they finished the season strong. The boys have done significantly better this season than last season (where they finished with 10 losses) and it’s great to see success return for the team.

The boys Varsity soccer team tied 1-1 against Pete Knight on Friday, January 31st. That day was also their senior night, which is a night where all of their seniors who’ve played with the Quartz Hill soccer teams for several years get recognized and congratulated for their successes. Although the team tied that game, the boys have a high chance of finishing first place in the Golden League. As long as they win both of their games this week, they should be able to get their hands on the first place trophy. Despite having a slow start, the Varsity boys soccer team really shined this year and have had lots of success. We wish them the best of luck for their CIF journey.

For the girls soccer team, it is hard to know (personally as a boy) exactly how both the JV and Varsity teams performed. The JV girls have a record of 11-1-2 for the season and are very close to winning first place for Quartz Hill. The same can be said about our Varsity team, who is leading their league with 10 wins in their season. In all, the girls have done extremely well this season. Well done rebs!

This marks the end of the season for the JV boys and girls. However, the Varsity boys and girls have CIF. We wish all the teams representing Quartz Hill for CIF Championships this year best of luck. With the end of winter sports, we are now reaching the final sports season: spring sports. Spring sports include track, swimming, baseball, softball, tennis, boys golf, and boys volleyball. Keep reading the Ubiquity for up-to-date coverage on all of these spring sports. Good luck to all students participating in spring sports, and keep up the hard work Rebs!
