Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua Rematch Review
The rematch of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua will start on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Before the rematch battle between these two rival boxers, here is their background information. Oleksandr Usyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer whose height is 6’3” and weighs 220 pounds. Joshua is a British boxer whose height is 6’6” and weighs about 245 pounds. On September 25, 2021, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Usyk won a devastating victory over Anthony Joshua to claim the WBA, IBF, WBO, and BO heavyweight titles.
Before the first rounds began, both fighters prepared to throw down. In the first round, they start it off with fencing jabs from the orthodox and southpaw stances. In the final minutes, Usyk gets a couple of good, clean hits on Joshua, such as a give-up jab to his face. In round 2, Uysk uses quicksilver potshotting toward Joshua. But Joshua sticks to a tactic involving a left hook, then a right uppercut to the solar plexus. In round 3, Joshua gets Uysk in a clinch briefly in the center ring, then goes for an uppercut, but misses. In round 4, Joshua hits his left jab and right upstairs to Joshua’s body. Then Usyk lands his most solid shot and soon Joshua responds with an uppercut, but it was a fraction off target.
During the 8 eighth round, Joshua seemed uncomfortable with the pace, but he was able to get a combination off at Usky. Still, Usky was able to move gracefully and weave through an array of headshots. In round 10, Usyk started with a left on Joshua. It looked like Joshua was exhausted but then he landed a big right jab on Usyk. He recovered and went through another combination attack. During the final round, both boxers grappled with each other. This has been punishing for both men. But then Joshua got caught on the way in, and he got a good right hit, but he had to take four or five from Usyk. Soon Joshua wrestled into Usyk until the final bell rang and the two men shared a moment of prayer and reflection in the middle of the ring. The winner of this rematch is Usyk. The score was 116 to 112.
This rematch was one amazing show. In the beginning, it looked like Usyk was going to win for sure. But then in the middle of the match, Joshua got off a couple of good combinations toward Usyk. The match between them lasted 12 rounds and both boxers put up a close fight and looked forward to their rematch.
