As the new year begins, there is so much to be excited about, especially when it comes to new entertainment. This year has a lot in store, from a new season of The Last of Us to several highly anticipated projects from movies to video games.

When it comes to movies this year, there are several to look forward to, with many exciting sequels and creative new films in the works. One to look forward to is the new Superman movie that is coming this July. This movie is up-and-coming, with the fantastic actor Nicolas Hoult staring as Lex Luther and James Gunn directing. The How to Train Your Dragon live-action film comes to theaters in June. In May, Marvel’s Thunderbolts will be released. Two highly anticipated movies due to their interesting concepts and the large studios they are from. Both of these movies are must-sees for action movie fans. 

Along with several highly anticipated movies, one of the most debated movies is coming out this April, the Minecraft movie. There is a lot of controversy over the film due to the trailers showing the odd and unexpected animation style in which the movie is made. It is still a must-see to discover what the Mojang studio can do, even with the recent controversy. Following the trend of video games made into a film, we will see a movie adaptation of Until Dawn, a choose-your-adventure horror game, this April. The game was revolutionary for its time, with high graphics and multiple different endings based on decisions in the game. It will be fascinating to see what the live-action adaptation will be. While the cast may not be that recognizable to many, actor Michael Cimino will star in the Until Dawn movie. Cimino has shown promising acting through the show Love, Victor, and I can only believe his acting will be equally as good in this new film. To continue, the sequel to the goofy and spooky Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will hit theaters in December. With all the love the first one received, fans should be excited for this new installment in the series and to see what happens to these terrifying animatronics.

Instead of going to the theaters, you can always watch one of the several new shows coming this year from your home. If you want a thrilling and apocalyptic show, The Last of Us season two is releasing this April on Max, where Padro Pascal will return along with Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. The final season of Stranger Things will also be released this year, concluding the series. Unfortunately, there has been no official release day for the final season yet. One more show for horror fans would be the new series based on Stephen King’s It. The new series is called Welcome to Derry, with Bill Skarsgard returning to play Pennywise after his fantastic performance in both It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019). If you are a fantasy and Game of Thrones lover, the latest show, A Night of the Seven Kingdoms, should be added to your watch list as another prequel to the original show. There is much in store with this up-and-coming show.

Along with the fun new movies and shows, there are a few official announcements for video games this year and several to-be-announced games to watch. One of the several anticipated games this year is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which takes the action-packed stealth game into Japan. A new twist on the series will be released in late March. Tales of the Shire, a Lord of the Rings video game, will be released in March for those who prefer a fun and nature-filled fantasy game. While many officially announced games are coming this year, one game that has been teased for almost a decade might come to light in 2025: Grand Theft Auto 6. While it seems far in development for now and could be released in 2025, keep your expectations low. This game has many interesting features that take time to develop, so expect delays from the game’s developers. Finally, Little Nightmares Three, a duel player horror game in the Little Nightmares series, is said to be released this year, but the release date has not yet been announced. The addition of multiplayer is a feature fans have wanted in the series since the last game’s release. It will be fun and should create new scary experiences to enjoy with friends.

I am excited to kick off this year, knowing all these new movies, shows, and video games will be released in the following months. This year looks extremely promising, and I can’t wait to see how good our entertainment will be.
