CIF Swim Review

Quartz Hill High School, home to the Rebels, has some of the most dominant sport’s teams in all of the valley. Our boys’ tennis team reached the third round of CIF before unfortunately getting eliminated. Our boys’ volleyball team, ranked highly among the other teams in the state, also made it to CIF. The swim team was the third and final team that made it to CIF.

The swim team has had a wonCIF Swim 4derful Golden League this year; the team was undefeated for the season. We are not the only school that has a stand-out swim team, so this is amazing.

The varsity swim team has been undefeated for the past 18 years, and we hope that they continue this legacy. The sport of swimming is nothing like any other for CIF.  Swimmers are sent to CIF for their fastest times. Swimmers implement over five strokes that are very popular and make them competitive.

Varsity swimmer Nelson Rios was open for an interview. Considering what swim is all about, he replied, “Swim to me is a sport where I can do what I love. Not only do I love the atmosphere of this sport, but also the competition that is brought along with it. I am looking forward to the three years that follow, and I hope to only get better.”

CIF Swim 2    Nelson Rios mentioned that there would be no changes happening next season, as his coach is comfortable with the current management of the team. He is confident that they can place first in Golden League for many years to come. As of now, Rios says that the team cannot be touched, and they had a remarkably fun season.

Unfortunately, some of the swimmers have talked about the lack of support from other students. Most other outdoor sports have many spectators, but swim is often neglected. Next year, we Rebels should be sure to attend a few swim meets and support the team, especially since they performed so well in CIF this year.

Nonetheless, many of the students here at Quartz Hill High are big supporters of all the sports and wish for the best. Our swim team has come a long way, and they will only get better with every year. We hope them the best on their journey to glory for next year.
