Graduation, the light at the end of the tunnel for most seniors, is just around the corner. This day is approaching incredibly quickly. What are seniors supposed to do in these last moments of their high school careers?
Many feel as though the stress of school has now disappeared and everything is just easy cruising from this point on, but that could not be further from the truth. These moments are pivotal for the future of all seniors, and with college decisions coming out these last few months, they are what truly determine how the rest of our lives will progress.
Some may argue that it is still too early in the year for seniors to start feeling the effects of senioritis. After speaking with a couple of seniors on our campus, it is very likely for seniors to begin experiencing a lack of motivation at any time throughout the second semester. Abbie Vilcapoma, an AP student as well as a senior on the Quartz Hill swim team, explains, “I’ve lost almost all motivation to complete assignments, and from this point, I feel that every assignment is just like a chore and school has become more dreadful, especially with the start of swim and practice every night.” Though Abbie is just one example of the early signs of losing motivation, other students like Trenton Morrison, another AP student also on the swim team, feel as though he still has the strength to keep pushing until the end of the year. He expresses his feelings about school and his final semester, “ I never found it hard to keep pushing for my grades. Nothing has gotten in my way, and I think that this being my final semester is a bittersweet feeling.”
The second semester, I feel, is the time for seniors to really make their best memories of their high school years. Even though stress may be adding up, there are also many events that seniors could look forward to. Grad night and prom are just around the corner and are the perfect opportunities for the class of 2025 to experience these final memories of their senior year.
These final months allow seniors to embrace the final challenges and excitements that come with their high school experience. It is usual for seniors to feel anxious in these last moments, but they should also be filled with hope and anticipation for what’s to come in the future.
