The 2015-2016 tennis season was one of the most thrilling and exciting seasons in the QHHS Boys’ Tennis history. Under the guidance of Varsity Coach Brandon Diaz and Junior Varsity Coach Rosalind Darbeau, our Tennis team was able to maintain its 20 year CIF record by going to the third round of CIF. This year’s Boys’ Tennis captains were Hyeveen Cho and Parth Kurani, both of whom led this year’s team to great success. Along with their coaches, the Boys’ Tennis team won 12 out of the 14 games that they played during the season; the two games they lost were to their rival, Highland High School.

    This year also included many new members to both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Varsity Boys’ Tennis added Michael Ruddy and Isaac Kim to their team, while Junior Varsity completely redefined their team with the addition of Rohan Kumar, Dennis Markosyan, Brian Pease, David Rashmajyan, Aditya Shivaram, and Cherokee Wilson. Bryan Diaz said, “The addition of a lot of new players made this year pretty cool.” The introduction of all these new players allowed for the team to create a bond as well as make new friends.

    Some of the most memorable moments of this year’s tennis season were the games against Highland. These games were considered by our team to be the most remarkable, as they brought all their skill and energy in order to defeat their rival. Although their efforts did not ultimately prevail, members of the tennis team, such as Kurani and Diaz, regard these games as the best moments of the season due to their intensity.

    Out of the series of games against Highland High School, the most noteworthy game of the season was a single’s game involving our very own Justin Truong against Highland’s Matthew Kim. In a series of two consecutive games, Truong was able to keep the score “tight.” During the extremely close match, fellow teammates gasped in awe at the intense game between the two players. Ultimately, Truong was narrowed out by a margin, and Highland won the game. Kim was able to show Truong that the “Bulldogs are better” by destroying Truong in the single’s set.

    Overall, this year’s tennis season was an exciting one with our team managing to keep our CIF streak. This year also had its downsides, such as the loss of our victory streak to Highland. Here is to a great year for the Boys’ Tennis Team, and hopefully, they do better next year and bring back the tennis glory to QHHS.
