A Minecraft Movie was announced in 2016, though it didn’t debut on the big screen until April 4, 2025. The movie took the internet by storm, and as scenes were shown prior to the release, they were turned into memes in true social media fashion.
The hopes for this movie were low, and many people expected a horrible quality movie that would be easy to hate. However, upon its release, this opinion significantly changed. I was one of the people who had assumed it wouldn’t be a very good movie, though the day I saw it in theaters, I was giggling almost the entire time. I am happy to admit that I was sorely mistaken. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Minecraft Movie and would happily do so again. It was hilarious, the jokes were well done and overall just…funny. It did feel like the angst of some characters was a bit out of place when it was brought up, but other than that, it was a great movie.
I interviewed three people to see what they thought of the movie, and here is what they had to say. A Quartz Hill High School student, Lily Rosenblatt, responded, “I really liked it [A Minecraft Movie] for what it was, I thought that it was entertaining and it was what I expected.” I then asked another student, Kalea Johnson, and got a different opinion. “I thought it was good, it was kind of funny. The colors were nice and the actors were funny.” When asked if she disliked anything about the movie, Kalea responded, “They overdid the jokes a little bit throughout the entire thing, it was a bit dry.” The last person I interviewed was a student from Highland High School, Matthew Ramos. He had a very different opinion from the other interviewees, and quite a lot to say. “The movie was honestly not very well put together because of pacing issues and major inconsistencies with the source material [the Minecraft video game]. Overall I would give it a 9/10.”
The varying responses to the Minecraft movie are only symbolic of one thing: everyone has different opinions, that doesn’t make it a good or bad movie…just a movie.
My personal favorite part of the movie would have to be the ending credit scene with Jennifer Coolidge and her villager…now fiance, apparently. The reveal of who her ex-husband is (I will refrain from spoiling this because it is so funny to see for the first time and I would hate to ruin that experience for anyone) made my entire theater erupt in laughter. That, and also Nitwit speaking English with a British accent.
If you like movies that make you cry laughing, then I’m sure you will enjoy the Minecraft Movie. It was hilarious and absolutely worth every second I spent watching it. If you liked my review, then you will absolutely like the movie too.
