Winter Ball Recap

Winter Ball at QHHS is a big deal, but often we usually do not see the behind-the-scenes work being done by ASB. To get the inside scoop, I tagged along with an ASB member to see the extensive preparation done for Winter Ball.

I arrived at the MOAH at 5 o’clock, two hours before the actual dance was going to start.  There, I saw no chaos, only perfect coordination. The different ASB members worked extremely well together. Three people decorated the sign that would be hung outside while others set up and arranged the tables. I never knew how much planning and thought could go into setting up tables. The black tablecloths were spread out carefully, topped off with the centerpiece (a white rose in a vase). There was an assortment of fake diamonds and rose petals surrounding the vase, which gave off a formal allure to the entire place, and the ribbons on each vase were tied perfectly.

Even the lights were dimmed, giving the room a Paris-like feeling. The different strobe lights on the dance floor also contributed to the fun vibe. The venue was nice, as there was lots of space to dance and many different rooms for people to gather to view the paintings.

The dance was in full swing by 7:30. People were dancing, taking polaroids, and overall having a great time. The dance music was not really dance music, but people still grooved anyways. People really did not care if the assortment of songs were not that great; it was a night to have fun and dance away.

The only complaint I have was the food. ASB provided candies and water bottles, but they were not allowed to actually provide substantial food. It was due to no fault of theirs, but the museum’s strict regulations prevented them from doing so. It was not that big of a deal because there were many other things to do, and people could have left after the dance to get food if they really wanted to.

I must say that the students of QHHS clean up real nice. Guys totally rocked their suits and ties. Some came formal and others came casual. The ladies also came dressed to impress. They wore dresses of different colors and different styles. It was interesting to see the same people you see five days a week wear something other than school clothes.

Thanks to all the great work that ASB has done, students are now eagerly awaiting the next dance to take place.
