With winter almost over, Quartz Hill’s boys’ tennis team is getting ready for its upcoming season. However, due to the horrible weather, the majority of the try-outs were cancelled, and all of the players were left in sorrow. However, with a good number of returners, this year’s team is something to look forward too.

Rohan Kumar is a very talented sophomore tennis player and can definitely help lead Quartz Hill into a successful season. Standing around five foot and six inches, not only is Kumar able to serve very well, but he is also able to run around the court. He was very disappointed with tryouts being cancelled, and he decided to train at a nearby park. With his work ethic, Quartz Hill can get very far into their league.

One of the few other returners, Dennis Markosian, is also a talented player. He started playing tennis just last year, after he was convinced to join the team by his fellow peers. Although initially disgruntled, he later fell in love with the sport and decided to practice every day in order to improve. Markosian stated, “I started playing tennis during my freshman year in high school, and now my goal is to make my team proud and better.” For the past week, he has been practicing his form at home so he would later dominate during try outs.

Sophomore Adem Abdella always had the passion for tennis ever since his older brother started playing. With tryouts cancelled due to rain, Abdella trained in his backyard to improve his form and serves. Although he did not play on the team last year nor did he try out, he is confident on making the team this year and is ready to help make a change to the tennis program. Abdella stated, “Once I make the team, my goal is to not only improve my skills, but also make my school proud.”

With all the returners, newcomers, and a totally different coaching staff, the boys’ tennis team can go far into their league and hopefully have the chance at a playoffs position.
