Why Children have it Harder than Adults

There has been much debate over whether teenagers or their parents live more difficult existences. Obviously, the answer is teens, but it does not seem like adults understand this, as they do not understand anything. Because of this confusion, I have come up with some reasons and explanations as to why we have it so much harder than the older generation.

Reason 1: School

Getting up early, staying at school for 8 hours, then dealing with homework, extracurriculars, and similar situations is the absolute WORST, especially when you have to be at school before 6:23 in the morning, but I digress. It is not like many parents have to wake up early as well to make their children breakfast, take them to school, and then head off to work 8 or sometimes even more hours. And do not even get me started on the fact that they never have to do homework. All adults have to do is come home and take care of us by making the food, paying all of the bills, making appointments, etc.

Reason 2: Breakouts

We all know that if there is one thing worse than school, it is a zit. Do adults have to deal with waking up and discovering that they have transformed into an actual pepperoni pizza (and definitely not the good kind)? I think not. They do not know the vicious cycle of breaking out because of stress, causing us to stress even more, and then essentially start breaking out even more because you were breaking out. Our parents have only ever experienced clear skin, right? They could never understand.

Reason 3: Relationships

Need I say more? Will adults ever understand the heartbreak that comes with being broken up with over text after two months? Answer: no. Not even divorcing your spouse of 14 years and having to divide all of your belongings, custody, and such can compare to a high school couple’s split. If the two go to the same school, they will most likely see each other every day. Is there a bigger punishment than that?

Reason 4:  Social Media

Keeping your reputation up on social media is extremely tough. Having to go on every single day to tweet our thoughts, post selfies on Instagram, and keep up our aesthetic blogs can be a hassle, especially when you are pretending to be someone you definitely are not. Meanwhile, the older generation only has to worry about telling people “happy birthday” on Facebook.

Clearly, us children have the right to be more stressed than anyone else. I believe that adults should suck it up and realize that they do not have it half as bad as their kids. It is not like adults have to deal with the teenagers with such difficult lives, put a roof over the teens’ heads, and provide for them while sacrificing their own sanity, right?
