Top 5 Christmas Movies

By Brandon Kim, Staff Writer

Christmas is the most wonderful holiday of the entire year. Even though giving and receiving gifts is exciting, there is nothing more thrilling than watching a couple of Christmas movies to get into the jolly, Christmas spirit. The holiday season is among us; therefore, here are a few movies that you can watch to get into the spirit of Christmas.

  1. Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone is a classic Christmas movie about a child named Kevin McCallister. In the opening of the movie, Kevin has an argument with his parents the night before their family vacation to Paris. As a punishment, Kevin’s parents send him to sleep in the attic, and Kevin wishes that he never had a family. When the family departs the next day to the airport, they forget to bring Kevin with them and accidentally travel to Paris without him. Kevin wakes up the next morning and is overjoyed, thinking that his wish really came true. However, he must protect his home from two criminals who plan on robbing the McCallister home while the family is out of the country. Overall, Home Alone is a great movie to watch and rewatch before Christmas.

  1.  A Christmas Story (1983)

A Christmas Story is an amazing and humorous film that tells the story of a boy named Ralphie who dreams of getting a Christmas present that his parents are not willing to buy. This present is the “Red Ryder Air Rifle.” Ralphie also must avoid the neighborhood bully and his teacher who gives him ridiculous grades. A Christmas Story is a great Christmas film about a boy who faces off against his teacher, mother, a mall Santa, and everyone else who doesn’t want Ralphie to get an air rifle because they think that he will “shoot his eye out.”

  1.  A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

A Charlie Brown Christmas is an incredible movie, but not for the reasons that most would expect.  It’s great for its simplicity and up-front Christmas message. In this movie, Charlie Brown, the main character, is trying to find the true meaning of Christmas. Each of the characters have a different approach toward the question. It is inspiring, funny, and it represents the epitome of the Christmas spirit; further, it is an all-time favorite for many.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a Christmas classic. Rudolph is a reindeer that is constantly teased for his bright red nose.
