A Look At This Year’s NFL Playoffs

January 30, 2022. That is the day the Los Angeles Rams will face off against the San Francisco 49ers. In addition to this, it is also the same day the Kansas City Chiefs will play against the Cincinnati Bengals. This year’s playoffs have been nothing short of incredible. The fact that just a year ago, the Cincinnati Bengals were 4-11, and now they are one win away from the Super Bowl is amazing. Furthermore, the Bengals ended a 31-year playoff drought with their win against the Las Vegas Raiders, 26-19.

Surprisingly enough, we did not get to see Tom Brady participate in this year’s NFC championship. However, he did get very close. Brady was on the way to coming back from a 3-20 deficit, but the Rams managed to come up with some clutch catches from Cooper Kupp, which ended the game 30-27 in the Rams’ favor. In addition to this, Aaron Rodgers was also kicked out of the divisional round by the 49ers. The 2021 MVP played average; it was the extreme mistakes that were made by the special teams that created the difference. In the 4th quarter, the score was 3-10 in the Packers’ favor. The Packers elected to punt the ball. However, the 49ers managed to block the punt and score a touchdown, creating a tie. With this momentum, the 49ers marched down the field and kicked a field goal to end the game.

Although these two veterans did not make it to the championship round, they gave everything they could in the final minutes. Going back to the present, the current favorites for the NFC championship are the Los Angeles Rams. This is simply because the Rams put everything into this run. They added established veterans Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. to their team, which has paid off very well. Odell Beckham Jr. has become one of Matthew Stafford’s top targets, while Miller gets a sack each game. Although he did not have a sack in the first four games he played with the Rams, he made up for that with his postseason performance. On the other hand, Beckham currently has 305 yards, 27 receptions, and five touchdowns, better stats than what he was doing with the Browns two seasons ago.

Of course, the Chiefs are a huge favorite over the Bengals, seeing how they won the Super Bowl just two seasons ago while the Bengals have never won a Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes has been slightly off his usual stellar performance. However, he seems to be getting back into rhythm. Similarly, Joe Burrow and Ja’marr Chase have been explosive. Currently, Chase is the favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, which shows just how well he has been playing for the Bengals. No matter what happens, football fans can say this year has been amazing, and we wish everyone the best!
