Recent Music Releases

While waves of movie releases may hit us in the summer and holiday season, the music industry seems to be throwing content at us left and right these days. Within just over two weeks, many artists have been releasing music, from bigger names (see Doja Cat and Troye Sivan) to obscure smaller artists and everywhere in between.

Most recently, Troye Sivan worked with Jay Som to create a song titled “Trouble” that will be featured in the movie, Three Months, set to release this month. Beach House has also just released a new album with 18 songs on it, titled Once Twice Melody, which had been hinted at with a few EP releases in the weeks prior. Orchid Mantis has put out the new song “never right,” and Snail Mail released a demo version of one of her songs for Valentine’s Day, titled “Adore You – Valentine Demo.” A popular audio on TikTok that was admired for months has also been made into a full song and released by Odie Leigh, officially titled “Crop Circles.”

Earlier this month, Doja Cat also released a song titled “Celebrity Skin,” and alternative rock band Wallows has put out “Especially You.” Spanish indie rock artists boy pablo and Cuco have gotten together to make the lovely song “La Novela” in recent weeks. On the more indie folk side of the music industry, Lucy Dacus released “Kissing Lessons,” and the band Clementine Was Right has put out “Half of My Heart Is a Runaway Train.”

As far as remakes go, Mother Mother has released a sequel to their song “Hayloft” which has gained an extreme spike in attention due to its popularity on TikTok in the past year. “Hayloft II” now plays on the original lyrics as a new story with energizing musical compliments. Queer pop icons Tegan & Sara have also pursued a continuation of some of their famous music. In 2004, they released the album So Jealous, which really set off their music career. Now, 18 years later, they released one titled Still Jealous, which stands as a remake of the original album and celebrates their journey in the music industry.

Some other songs have also gotten remixes lately. MEDUZA and Hozier’s “Tell It To My Heart,” which already delightfully surprised audiences for its synth electronic synth genre that contrasts so greatly to Hozier’s trademark blues and folk tones, recently got four different remixes. James Hype, Tiësto, Chemical Surf, and KVSH have all taken their turns at remixing the song. Tame Impala also re-released the album The Slow Rush B-Sides & Remixes, which includes five remixes, each of different classic songs of theirs. Ricky Montgomery has also released a single slowed-down version of his popular song “Line Without a Hook,” lovingly tugging on the waterworks of his audience even more than he already does.
