QHHS Prom Dos and Don’ts

After two years, QHHS is finally having a prom. It is an exciting event and will be a night to remember. This may be someone’s first-ever dance at QHHS! However, how should you act, and how will it compare to dances such as homecoming? When you think about it more, the current senior class were freshmen the last time there was a prom in 2019, while the junior class had zero experience with any large-scale events such as this. So here are some do’s and don’ts.

DO wear shoes that will be comfortable all night. Girls usually wear high heels when going to a dance, but most know they can hurt after a while. Since prom is located in LA, students will have to check-in at 3:30 P.M. in the big gym and wait to board the buses. Prom will be 7 P.M.-12 A.M., which is a lot of time to spend in uncomfortable footwear. Of course, if you are strong and heels don’t bother you, go right ahead!

DON’T be inappropriate with your dancing!  We are teens, and we want to have fun; however, it can be highly uncomfortable when someone participates in provocative dance moves. Keep it civil.

DO prepare beforehand. Prom is a big event, and stuff can go wrong. Be sure that your attire is ready, your clothes fit, your hair is the way you want it, your phone is charged to 100%, and you set aside time to take pictures beforehand.

DON’T try to bring items that are prohibited. On the Prom 2022 Information site, some prohibited items include: glow in the dark items, alcohol/flasks, weapons, tobacco products, gum, and open mint containers. It might be tempting to try to sneak in contraband—but don’t. You can live one day without it. Don’t forget, one restricted item is water bottles, but fret not, beverages will be provided.

DO be respectful at California Science Center. ASB worked hard to provide an incredible prom, so don’t make it a nightmare for them. Don’t try to break or steal anything.

DON’T be discriminatory. Yes, this has to be said in 2022. Treat people respectfully, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, or race. Do not judge what others have chosen to wear on this momentous occasion.

DO get some rest the day before. While staying up until 3:00 A.M. to complete a project or study for a test may be commonplace, make sure that you get the much-needed rest the night before prom.

DON’T stress yourself out. Prom is meant to be fun, and you should have the time of your life. Dance to your heart’s content, make spectacular memories you’ll never forget, and don’t let anyone get you down. Don’t worry too much about your appearance because you’ll look magnificent no matter what!
