Met Gala 2022

Each year on the first Monday of May, the Met Gala is held to raise money to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. The theme for the year was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” However, the night’s more common and popular subtheme was “Gilded Glamour.” This is the second part to a two-part theme continuing from last year’s Met Gala held in September due to COVID-19 restrictions. The A-list celebrities that were invited were challenged to put a modern spin on late 19th-century fashion.

About 600 people attended the Met Gala this Spring, including actors, models, singers, and designers. Memorable moments and outfits were created on the carpet. Many celebrities made these moments possible with their elaborate looks.

Among the most popular of the night were Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson in vintage Jean Louis and Cartier jewelry (Kardashian) and Dior Men (Davidson). Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress that she wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy. Kardashian changed into a replica of the dress directly after walking the carpet.

This year, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, co-chairs of the ball, walked the carpet and stole the show. Blake Lively wore an Atelier Versace gown that transformed from copper to green. This is said to represent the oxidations of the Statue of Liberty.

Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid entered the ball in monochromatic outfits. Bella Hadid wore an all-black Burberry gown and Briony Raymond jewelry. Gigi Hadid wore an all-red Versace corseted leather catsuit with knee-high boots and a dramatic puffy cape.

Another popular look was that of Nicki Minaj. She wore an all-black Burberry gown with a half-cut leather baseball cap. Her whole chest, arms, and face were covered with tiny jewels.

Dwayne Wade showed up to the gala in an all-white Versace suit that he wore without a shirt. The suit had small gold details and was paired with Christain Louboutin shoes. Wade wore a diamond choker and carried a cane.

Lizzo showed up on the carpet and left the crowd speechless. She wore an all-black Thom Browne gown with gold floral details. She carried around a gold flute and entertained the people with some small tunes.

Last but not least of the night’s highlights are the reporters. TV reporter Genesis Suero stunned the crowd with her Cinderella-inspired look. New York City-based designer Lucia Rodriguez designed the gown.
