After nearly seven years, Team Cherry’s long-awaited game, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has been announced for release on September 4th, 2025. This sequel to Hollow Knight is only Team Cherry’s second game, with the original game winning The Game Award for Best Debut Indie Game and BAFTA Games Award for Debut Game. After Hollow Knight’s release in 2017, Silksong was initially planned only as an extended DLC for the original game until the developers decided to release it as a sequel. With all the talk of the new game, everyone’s wondering what it’s about.
As a new Metroidvania-style action and adventure game, Silksong features once again beautiful, vibrant visuals, a melodic orchestral soundtrack composed by Christopher Larkin, who composed all the music featured in Hollow Knight, and gameplay you won’t be able to step away from. As Hornet’s story begins, she is captured and taken to the kingdom of Pharloom. As she ventures through unfamiliar lands, she fights to the kingdom’s peak, battling foes with her new and improved needle and meeting allies on her journey to uncover the truth behind her kidnapping. Through the excitement for its release, it has even been recognized by other developers, who know it will be an extravagant sequel.
Upon its announced release, however, eight other game releases have been pushed to later dates. One game delayed due to Silksongs’ release was Little Witch In The Woods by Sunny Side Up. As their announcement for the delay stated, they planned to release on September 4th. Still, due to the “immense influence” of Team Cherry’s game, they fear releasing it on the same day would disappoint their devoted audience and diminish their development team. Other games that delayed their release include Aeterna Lucis by Aeternum Game Studios, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles by Frogteam Games, CloverPit by Panik Arcade, Demonschool by Necrosoft Games, Faeland by Talegames, Megabonk by Vedinad, and Baby Steps by Devolver Digital, according to Diego Argüello, Game Developer. Many of these delays were due to fear of Silksong overshadowing their releases, which shows how awesome even other game developers know what Team Cherry is capable of.
According to Team Cherry’s Official Website, Silksong is set to release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, so everyone should have access to this breathtaking development. Even after 7 years of development, it will be released for only $19.99. Before its release, we had no access to the OST; however, Christopher Larkin has released a sample of its music, showing us how beautiful the game will be, even through sound.
Besides Larkin, an absolutely incredible team is responsible for putting together the gameplay and features of Silksong, such as Ari Gibson, who is accountable for the game’s design. Gibson creates the game’s art, environments, and animations of hundreds of bugs alongside William Pellen, who establishes the enemy, boss, and game behavior. However, behind it all stands Jack Vine, who coded the entire game, fixing and debugging it over this long wait. The Hollow Knight community may have had an impatient wait, but it will have been long worth it, knowing the extensive work and time the developers have put into this incredible game.
