With the season of love right around the corner, it’s time to start looking for presents for your significant other and friends. It can be hard trying to find the perfect present for important people in your life, with the fear of getting them something they might already have or don’t want. For that reason, I went around Quartz Hill High School talking to people and discovering what they love to receive on Valentine’s Day. So, for those who need ideas for great Valentine’s Day presents, here is a list of the 10 most wanted Valentine’s Day presents this year. Starting with the most accessible and crafty gifts, to the less affordable ones.
Affection
One of the simplest but most appreciated Valentine’s gifts is just being someone who cares and shows affection. Whether it’s through talking or through hugging, affection is the root of this holiday. Maria Diaz said, “I like hugs,” a quick yet honest statement that shows how even the most minor gifts matter. Nathan Philips said that his favorite Valentine’s presents are “Chocolates and appreciation.” Being appreciated for what you do and how much you care is essential.
Handmade cards and flowers
Making something by hand means so much more to most people than buying it at the store. Cards, paper flowers, origami, and so much more can be made for free at home. Showing someone that you will put the time into creating a present for them means so much to them; even if the homemade present isn’t perfect, the time you put into it shows your love. These types of presents are destined to work as an easy Valentine’s gift.
Baked goods
Along the lines of DIY crafts for Valentine’s presents, baked goods are another affordable and cherished gift. Brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and even bread all make for great home-baked gifts. While it can be difficult to learn how to bake these things, if made with love and care, they can be delicious and loved by your valentine.
Handwritten notes
Similar to homemade cards, handwritten notes can mean so much to your valentine. Something they can look at and read to be reminded of how much they mean to you. It’s essential to let everyone you are thankful for know how much they mean to you, and saying it out loud can be hard sometimes. Kaylee Hernandez said, “I like well-thought-out Valentine’s cards because they show how much my boyfriend cares and thinks about me. Especially when there are special details that are sentimental about us.” Taking time, thinking about what you’re writing, and adding in those special details can mean so much. Letting your feelings out on paper is an easy gift and can mean so much more than another teddy bear.
Chocolate
A classic Valentine’s Day present for those with a sweet tooth has always been chocolate. It is simple and sweet for any important person in your life. It is also an easily transportable gift and very accessible. If you want to really impress your valentine, get them their favorite chocolate flavor, or splurge on a variety pack if they like lots of chocolate.
Flowers
Another classic Valentine’s present is flowers. They are beautiful and can last a week or two if prepared properly. This gift is honestly great for everyone; while it’s most commonly given to ladies, it’s seriously all-inclusive. As Joe Zuniga says, “Lowkey, I would like some flowers… men like never get flowers.” Flowers are truly loved by everyone for their beauty, scent, and ability to light up a room. A good bouquet can be expensive, but picking some homegrown or wild flowers is always an easy gift option.
Candles
Not a gift widely acknowledged, mentioned by Denise Gerrero, “I really like candles… I feel like people don’t get candles a lot“. Candles make for a long-lasting gift that will remind your partner or friend of you every time they light it. Candles are also an affordable present, as they are sold at most dollar stores and grocery stores. When buying a candle, though, keep in mind the scents that the person you are buying it for likes and doesn’t like.
Fugglers
Surprisingly, these little toothed monsters make very great gifts for Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t seen them, Fugglers are, as the name suggests, funny and ugly creatures. These stuffed monsters have been gaining popularity in recent months and are a new type of collectible. They are fun to cuddle, and with the latest Valentine’s additions, these make for great funny gag gifts and real gifts for Fuggler fans.
LEGOs
While not a present everyone loves, it was one mentioned by many of the people I interviewed. LEGOs are a present that is fun to make to pass the time, and, depending on the set, fun to make together. Legos can be a fun date night activity and a great decoration for a bedroom. One downside to LEGOs is their price. Most sets cost $40-$80, which isn’t affordable for everyone, but off-brand options are available and, in my opinion, equally as fun.
Jewelry
Jewelry is a classic gift given on Valentine’s Day, as it is a forever piece of art that commemorates love in friendship and romance. Jewelry is a great gift and has a range of prices that fit most budgets. Buying something pretty with diamonds or a fun charm necklace is a great present that comes in so many shapes and sizes.
