Everyone knows the century-old debate about the Spinosaurus versus the T. Rex; however, I present an even better, cooler option: the Ankylosaurus. The Big T and Spiny are old news; everyone’s heard it and argued with one side or the other, but why not change it? The Ankylosaurus is better than both a T. Rex and a Spinosaurus, and here’s why.
While the Spinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex both have their towering size and bite force over most creatures of the time, the Ankylosaurus have something they don’t have, a real weapon. They can bite and claw all they want, but nothing beats the force of a Jurassic-sized club against some dino knees. Just the pure force and strength of the spiky hammer at the end of their tail can be used to break the bones of whatever opposing creature comes at them.
On top of their super sick hammer, they have their own set of personalized armor. They had osteoderms – bony plates, or scutes, embedded into their skin – covering their back, neck, and tail, and topped with a layer of keratin. With this thick shield around them, they were protected from attacks from predators such as the infamous T. Rex and Spinosaurus.
Lastly, and arguably most importantly, their character. They weren’t out in the fields fighting T. Rex and Spinosauruses for fun; they only attacked them when they fought first. They were herbivores, and I truly believe they had kindness in their hearts. They feast on the leaves growing off trees and the plants growing in the ground. If they were still alive, they wouldn’t attack you or your friends. I think they’d say hello and wish you a blessed day, and that alienates them from so many other dinosaurs of their time.Â
I stand against the rude bullies and stand with the kind and loving Ankylosaurus, which just wished to live its life eating flowers and running through fields. We need to start considering others in these situations and hearing out the creatures that really need the support. I rest my case, Ankylosauruses were super sick and way cooler than the T. Rex and Spinosaurus combined, and should be held with love in all our hearts for the rest of eternity.
