Girls’ Volleyball Team Profile

Players on the JV Volleyball team

After sadly losing in the CIF semi-finals last year, the girls’ volleyball is trained and ready for the upcoming season. As the JV co-captain, Kylie Chelette has many new goals for the team to accomplish. She believes that every individual this year will help the group strive to victory. Chelette said, “Basically the volleyball team is like a family. We win together, we lose together, and each game brings us closer. We work hard every day to get better, and everyone has grown so much as a team.”

Jasha Puzon, a freshman last year, made the team but decided to pursue band instead. However, now, she is back for more. After realizing that the competition level was much higher, Puzon worked her hardest and motivated herself in order to make it onto JV. She said she once doubted herself; however, she is now confident and ready to play in the upcoming season.

As the Varsity Co-captain, Taylor Mobley, has been a great athlete to watch on the floor. Playing on Varsity ever since freshmen year and having helped the girls’ volleyball team reach the CIF semi-finals last year, Taylor Mobley is determined to win it all. She believes that the varsity girls are very young but talented this year, and she thinks they will make it to the CIF finals. She said, “We put a lot of work in every practice and show it when it is game time. We did not really have tryouts mainly because we did not lose any players from last year other than two seniors.”

Although Varsity is filled with familiar faces, the freshman and JV teams in order to recruit any new members. As Mobley stated, the Varsity girls will sometimes allow a couple athletes from JV to practice with the varsity players in order to see their skill level against much higher competition. Since the goal for the Quartz Hill Girls’ Volleyball team is to win a CIF championship, they are working everyday to improve, individually and as a group.

This year’s girls’ volleyball season is going to be filled with excitement and intensity. With a team of familiar faces, the girls have better chemistry on and off the floor, which will help them towards victory.
