Disney Movies Coming in 2022

2021 was an interesting year for movies. The world was slowly opening up again, and movie theaters finally allowed the public to watch movies. However, despite this, Disney still released some movies on their streaming service until the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on September 3, 2021. The New Year has come, and with that, even more films are coming out in 2022 which may interest you.

Turning Red (March 10th)

Turning Red is the newest Pixar movie coming out this year. It is about a girl named Mei Lee who’s torn between staying the responsible daughter her mother raised and exploring the chaos within her adolescence. While exploring the new thoughts and interests of growing up, she has to control her emotions; otherwise, she turns into a Red Panda. This movie will not have a theatrical release but will be on Disney+. It is a bit sad to find out that this movie will not release in cinemas, but it is understandable because of the current circumstances in the world.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 4th)

After the events in Spiderman: No Way Home and the first season of Loki, Dr. Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the door to the multiverse and allows an alternate version of himself to enter his universe. This version of himself threatens humanity and poses a threat to Dr. Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and Wong.

Better Nate Than Ever (Spring)

Better Nate Than Ever is a book adaptation of Better Nate Than Ever by Tim Federle. It will follow Nate Foster’s journey to Broadway and all of the shenanigans that come along the way. So far, there is no release date for the movie, but it will arrive sometime in Spring. There has also been no other information about the film itself but that it will appear on Disney+.

Lightyear (June 17th)

Another Pixar movie will be coming soon! Lightyear will explore the origin of the hero behind the toy Buzz Lightyear. The film’s teaser trailer has been released, but the plot has not been revealed. However, based solely on the one trailer, it will be action-packed and delve deeper into Buzz’s character. It will be a fun watch and is a movie I’ve been anticipating for a while. Currently, it should be released theatrically; however, based on what’s happening to Turning Red, it might meet the same fate.

Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8th)

Not much information has been released about the film itself, other than the many delays. It will be a sequel to the previous Thor movie and heavily inspired by Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor. There has also been news that Natalie Portman will return to reprise her role as Dr. Jane Foster, which has fans excited.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11th)

After the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, the sequel to Black Panther had to be reconfigured. Marvel executive Victoria Alonso said that the company has no plans to recreate the actor digitally. However, Marvel president Kevin Feige has implied that they would honor Boseman somehow. From the information provided so far, it will focus more on the world of Wakanda and its characters. It may also focus more on T’Challa’s sister Shuri.

Strange World (November 23)

This film is an action-adventure journey into an uncharted and dangerous land filled with mystical creatures. The story will be led by the Clades, a legendary family of explorers whose differences will lead to disasters on their mission. No trailers have been released yet, or much information on casting.

Disenchanted (Fall)

After over 15 years, Enchanted will be getting a sequel. The story will focus on Giselle, Robert, and Morgan, who is a teenager now, moving into the suburbs and juggling all of the challenges that come with it. It will be released sometime in Fall and will be on Disney+.

Pinocchio (Fall)

The 1940 Disney movie will be receiving a live-action adaptation sometime in Fall. Tom Hanks will be playing the role of Geppetto, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be playing Pinocchio. It will be released on Disney+ as well.

These are some of the films planned to come out in 2022. There are still so many other films being released from Disney and more shows coming to Disney+. I am excited for some of these to come out and will likely cry watching them. Hopefully, these films will also leave you excited and live up to the hype.
