Getting your schedule and immediately scanning what lunch you have. Every student does this at Quartz Hill High School to see which lunch they are in and which faction they are joining. Which lunch you are assigned is the most significant divisor of our school, and as we constantly compare, which one is better? Today, we will determine which lunch is superior.
I asked people if eating lunch earlier or later was better. Multiple people responded that their lunch was better than the other. Repeating a similar response of their lunch was the supposed time to eat lunch. Students backing up their lunch shows that people only sway to their lunch. Even I prefer B-lunch as it’s closer to my eating habits. A contradiction I found was James Davis, who said, “I tend to get hungry around third period, so A lunch would let me quell my hunger sooner than B lunch would allow for.” An explanation is that we all made habits for our lunch. Humans all follow patterns as it’s in our nature, especially for food. Any other time would be unusual for us.
The question comes down to what time should you set your habits. I studied multiple sources such as Eat This Not That, Northern Medicine, and mainly Health Line, all suggesting when to eat lunch. Studies published by Health Line show that you should eat lunch four to five hours after breakfast, which lines up with A-lunch. Often, students eat lunch roughly one hour before school or at school. Our schedules fit the time stamp, giving students four to five hours to absorb the food eaten until lunch. However, the story gets interesting as B-lunch is ideal for student-athletes instead. As studies show, you should eat one to two hours before exercising. Eating too late will cause you to lose energy faster, whereas eating too early could cause poor performance. Performance is everything for athletes, and professionals even consider this. Some studies have shown that eating before a workout benefits blood sugar. Acknowledging that this is still being researched and could change is crucial.
The question of which is better can’t be correctly answered as everyone has habits. The answer will differ for everyone based on when you eat breakfast and the patterns you start. Looking at the evidence, A-lunch is healthier for us unless you are an athlete; B-lunch is a better fit.
