On Friday, September 15, the Royals had their first Golden League football game. They were away at Palmdale High School against the Falcons. Before this game, Palmdale had a record of 0-3, and the Royals were 1-2 after a tough loss to Golden Valley. They needed this win against the Falcons. Palmdale had a record of 0-3 before the game. Even though Quartz Hill lost last year to the Falcons, they had more confidence going into this game.

The game started dry, with both teams playing great defense. Royals snap the ball to run a screenplay and throw the ball to #5 Adonyss Currie, which leads to an interception. Thankfully, Palmdale couldn’t capitalize on it and was stopped on the 20-yard line. Quarter one ends in 0-0.

Into the second quarter, Quartz Hill made it to Palmdale’s 20 but could not make it further, so they kicked a field goal and scored three points, scoring 3-0. Quartz Hill punts to Palmdale, and they have the ball on their 10-yard line. Palmdale gets rushed by Quartz Hill’s O-line, causing the QB to be pressured, and he scrambles to find only linemen in his face. He throws the ball to his receiver, but it’s too late. #6 Adnoyss Currie is already there to snatch the ball and run into the endzone for a pick-six! The score was now 10-0.

Palmdale does a screenplay, and #12 Anthony Cacao runs the ball to the 29-yard line. The Falcons threw a 29-yard pass for a touchdown, scoring 10-7. The Royals must create a lead with seven minutes left in the second quarter. Sadly, they were stopped, and in the second quarter, with a minute left, QHHS threw a pick-six to #12 Anthony Cacao with an 80-yard return, making the score 10-12. Quartz Hill was able to make it to the 44-yard line, and #24 Jeffery Kavanagh was able to kick a 44-yard field goal. The score now is 13-14.

The third quarter starts rough for Quartz Hill. The fumble is recovered by #12 Anthony Cacao and brought to the 20-yard line. Sadly, that fumble allowed the Falcons to gain an advantage early in the third quarter, and a 20-yard pass was thrown to #19 Aaron Youngblood for a touchdown. Score: 13-21. For the remainder of the game, the Falcons played lockdown defense and only allowed the Royals to get to the 20-yard line. It was a tough loss, Royals, but keep your heads up, and good luck in the next game. Go Royals!

Amelie Ryu, Marketing Editor
Hello, my name is Amelie Ryu. I am a senior and it is my third year on The Ubiquity staff. Some little things about me are that I love traveling, art, and sports, and I am in the IB program. I am the Marketing/Multimedia Editor for The Ubiquity and I absolutely love everything about it. I am also very involved in school clubs like Key Club, Multicultural, ASU, and way more. This year I am taking nine classes for my first semester which is stressing me out because five of them are IB classes. This means I have all those exams at the end of the year. Hopefully, I will get through it all fine and keep my sanity in check. Since it is also my senior year, I really want to make memories with all my friends and classmates. I look forward to another great semester on the school paper and hopefully, all of you can get through it just fine too.
