Congratulations to both the boys’ soccer and basketball teams for their win against the Bulldogs last week! Both teams put their best effort into these games and came out on top. The soccer team fought until the end and came out with a score of 2-1, and the basketball team did as well with a score of 68-55.
In both games, the Royals started with good endurance, and it led through to the end, leading them to victory. As the soccer game went on, the Highland Bulldogs scored the first goal. The Royals didn’t let this affect them, but came back stronger, putting two more points on the board. This match was very entertaining, as you could tell, both teams wanted it very much. Every move was intense, and it was clear that both crowds were very engaged. As for the basketball team, they managed to stay ahead of the Bulldogs the entire game by at least a couple of points. They fought to the end while every basket counted. The endurance that they showed through the game was worth it in the end. During each timeout, you can tell how badly the coaches and players wanted this victory. The energy on the court showed through the gym and created a very fun and energetic atmosphere. Both crowds fed into the hype of the game as each team scored and made plays. One of the cheerleaders, Meghan Bell, states, “The team’s enthusiasm was very uplifting, driving the team forward with support.” Getting to see the other point of views on the game was very refreshing and shows that these events can be a different experience for everyone. As speaking to the other members in the audience, it is safe to say that the Royals put on a very good show while showing their school pride.
As we know, the long-standing rivalry between the Royals and Bulldogs has provided very entertaining games and events that both schools look forward to and share the joy of supporting their school. As we are so fortunate to have so many sports on campus, no matter if it’s the field, court, track, or any other spot where our school provides these programs for us to take pride in, our tradition of these rivalry games have carried on. In other words, Dr. Daniel Wann, a researcher on sports rivalry, states, “So they cheer, they cheer for a purpose, to impact the game—and it does impact the game.” This shows how the excitement that these games bring really impacts the student-athletes. This is important because it shows how, when these traditions continue, it not only helps our teams but also helps the school’s pride.
To conclude, both of our teams have worked extremely hard to achieve these victories. As we attend these events, it is essential to continue supporting one another. Congratulations to the Royals on a great success in these games!
